This story talks about how writing students are not being taught the rules of plagiarism and copyright laws. it says that student are taught everyday to reuse though and recycle ideas and that the rules need to be better explain so that student wont get in trouble for dong something that they didn't even realize they were doing.
In my high school, the rules of plagiarism and copyright laws were always explained, so much so that if we are caught using the work of someone else without giving them credit we would fail the course. But just because one school teaches these things doesn't mean all schools do. While teaching to recycle and reuse ideas are goods things to teach student think that plagiarism and copyright needs to be better explained, especially because its such a huge things and a crime.
Now , where i couldn't relate to the students the story talked about because all my school taught us the different between plagiarism and recycling ideas, i do agree that schools need to better teach the rules so that student wont be in trouble later on in life for not be knowledgeable

Cultural Renaissance or Cultural Divide?
Things have changed alot over the years. Once a motion picture movie and a radio were considered "new" and luxury but now they are seen as no big deal. pop culture has come along way. now having an iPod isn't anything special but having an iPod touch or an iPod phone is admired. the pop culture of today and the pop culture of before highly differ. things once seen as the "hot new thing" are now seen as that "old thing from back in the day". example of this is the CD player vs. the iPod: going out on a daily bases and seeing people with an iPod is normal and damn near expected, but what if you see someone with a CD player? Your first thought is "why don't they just get an iPod?"
I feel that without and Cultural Renaissance there would be no Cultural Divide. pop culture has evoluted and its different now then it was years ago.

"And Now a Word from Their Cool College Sponsor"
In this story, Zernike, tells the story of two college students who offered corporate American an offer they could not refuse, to pay their full tuition in exchange fro them to be spokesmen for the company. The two boys chose First USA and they adversities for the company and the company pays $40,000 for the tuition, room and board, and books. they boys do interviews and have clothes advertising the company. they also have the company's logo on their surfboards. they are literally walking advertisement for the company.
to me this seems like a win/win situation. the boys get their tuition paid for and become some what of celebrities and the compo any gets 24/7 advertisement. This was very smart move on both parts. The best thing is that the boys did not have to do anything extreme like tattoo the company's name on the foreheads. Personally i admire the boys, it was a hot idea.

"Salespeak"
in the beginning, Fox tell the story of a girl named Pepsi Anderson, who, in her world, everything is named after a brand name, used especially as a form of advertisement. he then goes on to talk about school administrators that were considering auctioning off the names of school to the higher bidder. poking fun at the fact that there could be a chance that school will be named after fast-food chains or clothing stores. he basically talks about how advertising is everywhere. people whatever is needed to get their product out there to people, especially children and teenagers.
Reading this made me realize that this very true. advertising is everywhere. and the advertising always uses tricks to catch the eye of people and make them what is being advertised. they use things like a certain coloring to attract the eyes of buyers. they also use celebrities and make they look extra glamorous to make the consumer want to be like the celebrity.
i once did a paper on advertising of female perfume and i realized that companies pay dirty when the are advertising their product to make people buy t, even if they cant afford it.
