"whats Wrong With Cindrella?"

In this article, the author talks about thr problems with the "Princess" image that hirls get fed when they are young. while she believes that this image can damage a girl more then help, she makes a point to show both sides of the agrument throughtout the article. She talks about how she explains her feelings to her daughter but at the same time is a little scraed that her daghter, because she is only 3-years-old, feels like her mother is telling her not to act like a girl.

she gives the history on the "Princess" line from Disney and she even talks with the man that created the "Princess" line. He says that the"Princess" line is not harmful and that there are no shown studies that prove that it will cause harm. The author says that while this is true, it has been proven that girls that always feel that they hve to be nice and girly all the time end up becomign depressed later in life.

while I agree with her that princessing may not always be the best thing for a young girl all the time and a girl should be taught to grow up and be able to depend on themselves when they get older and not on men or anyone else nd the can be anything that they want to be. i still do believe that treating a girl like a princess sometimes will help them o know not to let anyone mistreat them and do anything that they want to do to them.

"Everything Bad is Good for You: How Today's Pop Culture is Actually Making Us Smarter"

In this article, the author talks about how pop culture makes us. it talks about how older people have always thought that pop culture was bad for younger people, whether it is video games, movies, television, music, or a certain genre of books. It goes into great detail about the mind boggling process of playing and winning at a video game. it broke down the objectives the game. it talked about how playing video games includes using problem solving techniques. This can help video gamers in the real world and also in school. Even though its different situations it all can help at one time or another.

Even though the article did not go into television, i think that television helps alt. i know personally that a lot of the stuff and facts that i remember and use daily i learned while watching television. whether i was watching the news or a comedy or even the discover channel (which does not happened to often).

"How Do We Write About Culture"

This reading talked about the difference and the similars of formal writing and informal writing, such as text messages and instant messages. It talked about how, even though its different, text messaging is a form of writing. This is something I have never about before because text messaging seems so much easier than writing a formal paper. In text messaging there is not formal wording. a lot of the time whole words are not even written out. when writing a paper, one has to it and think about the subject they are writing about. then come up with an opening paragraph, come up wit transitions that will make sense and an ending paragraph that will pull it all together. Text messaging and IMing is nothing like that. different thought can be separated with something as simple as a series of periods (.......).

I think my passion for writing essays and papers was one of the reason I feel in love with text messaging. One part of me can understand how some people can hate writing papers and love text messaging and IMing and another part of me could not understand it. Yes, one is harder then the other, but at the end of the day it all writing and making your thoughts and feelings heard.

Popular culture has made writing more interesting, esp. since now writing about pop culture can be done in school, even college now. Not matter formal or informal, more pop culture writing is being done and I think it is amazing.
